The visually evocative and emotionally resonant juxtaposition of saying goodby and the sunset refilling the wine glass makes this middle-of-the-story tanka emotionally effective, and the closing image is infused with layers of symbolic meaning. And I think my haiku below could be read as a sequel to Elliot's tanka:

    her face
    in my whisky
    the moon floats
